Spring Hill says ‘yes’ to school improvements
SPRING HILL, Kan. (KCTV) - According to preliminary results from the Johnson County Election Office, the mail-in ballot measure coined the #BuildingOpportunity initiative has ed for students in Spring Hill.
The $60 million bond will not raise property taxes while providing what USD 230 calls substantial upgrades within the district.
The district promises 5,500 square feet additions at Prairie Creek, Timber Sage, and Spring Hill elementaries.
Spring Hill Elementary and Middle School secured full roof replacements and HVAC improvements in the bond age.
Spring Hill High School will see a 30,000 square-foot Career & Technical Education program addition and a 5,00 square-foot commons expansion.
While only 26% of eligible voters mailed in their ballot, 64% of those voters said yes to the no-mill levy bond.
A no-mill levy bond is a bond that does not increase property taxes. Instead, it leverages the current tax rate to finance specific projects like new buildings, renovations, or infrastructure improvements, allowing for these projects to be funded over time without an immediate increase in property taxes. Essentially, it’s a loan that the school district takes out to finance projects, which is then repaid over a set period with interest.
