Cass County Sheriff’s Office says body of missing 4-year-old found in Belton pond
BELTON, Mo. (KCTV) - The search for a missing boy has ended in tragedy as local authorities report his body was found late Friday night.
The four-year-old, whose name has not been released, was first reported missing around 4 p.m. on May 16 in southern Belton. Dozens of first responders searched the area near 187th Street at Y Highway using drones, boats and a Kansas City Police Department helicopter.
Around 10:20 p.m. that night, however, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported that the boy’s body was recovered from a pond. The department extended its condolences to the family.
The department also thanked the community and neighboring agencies who assisted in the search, including: the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Belton Fire and Police Departments, Belton Emergency Management, South Metro Fire Protection District, Kansas City Police Department, Taking It To The Streets, Western Cass Fire Protection District, Dolan West Dolan Fire Protection District, West Peculiar Fire Protection, District Lee’s Summit Fire Department, Lee’s Summit Underwater Search and Rescue and the Overland Park Fire Department.
No further information has been released at this time.
