Crossroads business owners, residents start weekly safety meetings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Break-ins, sideshows and street racing continue to be an issue in Kansas City, and the Crossroads is no exception. After the most recent stretch of crime to start out 2025, community are taking matters into their own hands.

For the foreseeable future, Crossroads business owners and residents will hold a meeting on Monday morning with Kansas City representatives and police.

During the Monday, May 19 meeting, officers with the towing 36 vehicles.

During the Crossroads safety meeting, business owners also brought up ongoing concerns with vandalism and break-ins. Officers acknowledged that property crimes are down, but there is still work to be done.

“Crossroads is a wonderful neighborhood for our city and it’s just really a shame that all these small businesses are getting hit one after another,” Debbie Aron-Williamson, owner of Aron Real Estate, said. “I think people care and want to each other, so we decided to put this team together to talk about it.”

The Aron Real Estate office sits on the corner of Wyandotte St. and Southwest Blvd. Debbie said her space luckily hasn’t been broken into, but several others in the area have.

Kansas City Councilman Crispin Rea posted this message on Facebook ahead of the first meeting.

“We’ve reached a critical and unfortunate moment in our community. This Monday we will be hosting the first of what will be a regular Monday morning briefing where we invite KD leadership and Crossroads business owners and residents to recap the public safety situation over the weekend, discuss what actions were taken by the City and law enforcement, and assess how to prepare for the next weekend.”

The Crossroads safety meeting is every Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bauer, just off 18th St. and Baltimore Ave.
