LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man was taken into custody after leading State Troopers on a chase from Edwardsville to Lawrence following an armed robbery.

The Douglas County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Office says that just before midnight on Monday, May 18, the Kansas Highway Patrol notified dispatchers that the chase of a Kia Optima on I-70 was about to enter the county. The driver was believed to have been behind an armed robbery in Edwardsville.

Law enforcement officials said the suspect vehicle’s tires were deflated near Exit 202, near the Lecompton interchange, where the driver attempted to run. He was ultimately found by a drone in the woods near the 800 block of N. 1800 Rd.

Investigators indicated that a plan was formed to apprehend the suspect, a 31-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man who was thought to be armed and dangerous. He was eventually taken into custody without further incident.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that medics did evaluate the suspect before he was taken to an area hospital for treatment and released to KHP custody. No further information, including the suspect’s name, has been released.
