Man accused of leading Independence police on chase with stolen vehicle
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - An Independence man has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle.
Court documents in Jackson County claim Julio Aguillar led an Independence Police Department officer on a stolen vehicle chase just after 11 p.m. Sunday.
It happened in the area of U.S. 24 Highway and Brookside Avenue. An officer wrote in a probable cause document that his in-car license plate reader notified him that a stolen 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 had ed his vehicle.
The vehicle, which was reportedly stolen out of Kansas City, Kansas, failed to stop when the officer activated emergency lights. Eventually, the pursuit ended when Aguillar stopped and was taken into custody.
Police said the pursuit reached speeds that exceed 80 miles per hour.
Court documents said Aguillar itted that he knew the vehicle was stolen and said he borrowed it from a friend. He told police in an interview he knew it was stolen based on damage to the ignition.
Aguillar, who has a previous criminal history that includes tampering with a vehicle, was charged in Jackson County with a pair of felonies for first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and felony aggravated fleeing a stop or detention.
