Kansas City aquatic centers prepare to open for 2025 season
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Those around Kansas City are expected to enjoy a few new amenities with several improvements made to area aquatic centers ahead of the 2025 season.
City of Kansas City leaders announced on Wednesday, May 21, that they are excited to start summer with several major improvements made to aquatic facilities around the metro.
As of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, city officials said the water to the brand-new sprayground at Ashland Park has been turned on. Mayor Quinton Lucas is also expected to of The Grove Pool at 1 p.m. on Friday to announce the official launch of the 2025 outdoor pool season.
According to the City, outdoor aquatics improvements for the 2025 season include:
- $1.4 million to construct the new sprayground at Ashland Square Park
- $194,000 in caulking work and waterslide additions at The Grove Pool
- $4,500 in point-of-sale system and caulking upgrades at Gorman Pool
- $380,000 in play structure equipment at The Springs Aquatic Center
- $4.4 million to construct the new outdoor pool at the Tony Aguirre Community Center, expected to open in early July
Meanwhile, city officials noted that while few lifeguards are still sought at Bay Waterpark and The Grove Pool, overall staffing levels are on track for a successful season. The city’s outdoor pool management partner will offer lifeguard training sessions every weekend, to continue throughout the season as needed.
