Man sentenced for illegally reentering United States, possessing gun

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Mexican national who was illegally living in Kansas City was sentenced in federal court Wednesday for a pair of crimes.

Federal court documents revealed 33-year-old Jehu Jaziel Carranza-Rangel was sentenced to four years and six months in federal prison without parole, followed by three years of supervised release.

Carranza-Rangel pled guilty in November 2024 to illegally re-entering the United States after previously being removed and possessing a firearm as an illegal alien.

He itted in court to knowing he didn’t have permission to be in the United States, and that, as a result he was also not allowed to possess a gun.

Carranza-Rangel had previously been removed from the country in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.

He was found and arrested in July 2024. In 2020, he was convicted in Kansas for possessing a firearm.
