KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An area known to flood is Indian Creek, specifically in Watts Mill near 103rd and State Line Road. Business owners in the area said a pile of debris that’s only gotten worse is creating more problems for them.

Jasper Mirable has noticed that for over a year, a pile of debris and pieces of tree have been sitting in Indian Creek. It’s something business owners are worried about.

“It’s not good and that is just backing up everything. You can see it it’s so obvious. Here in Kansas City again. I hear it, it’s gonna happen, and nothing happens,” he said. “No one’s worried about 103 State Line.”

The creek is notorious for serious flooding issues, wiping out the parking lot where Jasper’s restaurant sits in years past. Owners said the pile is only making things worse.

Mirable claimed he first noticed the pile over one year ago, but didn’t make calls to the city until March of 2025.

“Is it gonna happen? I don’t know. Believe me I take it with a grain of salt now,” he stated.

He said when he spoke to Kansas City Parks and Recreation they told him they would address the issue, but never did.

Monday’s storms reignited Mirable and other business owners fears.

“Another flood. So here we go again,” he said. He said the area surrounding his business did flood.

Mirable explained outside of the flooding concerns, he also worries for people’s safety. He said kids will climb on the rocks of the creek and observes homeless people in the area. He said he fears them falling in and getting hurt.

KCTV emailed the city about the debris in the creek.

In an email, the city said it was aware of flooding issues in the Watts Mill area and they will address it when the water subsides.
