LEAWOOD, Kan. (KCTV) - A health warning for people who live and work near W. 127th Street and State Line Road in Leawood.

The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment issued a public health advisory because a manhole in the area overflowed. The county was notified about the issue around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Crews are working to remove the blockage that is caught in tree roots in the sewer. Work is also underway to prevent any contaminated water from flowing into Royce Pool and a nearby pond.

After the issue is fixed, a team of experts will test the water quality.

Until tests are back, and out of an abundance of caution, experts advise residents keep pets away from standing water in the impacted areas.

The issue does not impact the city’s public water system at all and experts said tap water is safe to drink.
