Man pleads guilty in attempted bank robbery case

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A man who attempted to rob a local bank pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday.

Fifty-year-old Cleburn Bruce Greene’s guilty plea was for one count of attempted bank robbery following an incident on Oct. 1, 2024.

Greene entered a bank and showed a teller a note that read “Give me your money.” When the Teller asked about whether Greene had an , he told the teller it was a robbery.

While the teller was typing on his computer to access emergency cash, Greene left the bank and threw the note in a dumpster, which was later recovered by authorities. He was seen on surveillance video leaving the scene in a Kia Sportage car.

Five hours after the attempted robbery, which took place just after 10 a.m., officers with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department located him in a restaurant parking lot.

Under federal statutes, Greene is subject to a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison without parole.
