Nature-themed renovation approved for Platte County park

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - It’s all about nature at Platte County’s Michael Gunn Park.
Located off Northwest 52nd Street in Kansas City near Walden Middle School and Park Hill South, Michael Gunn Park will soon see natural-themed play equipment.

Since Platte County purchased the land in 2002, the park has sat mostly bare with a small parking area and a one-mile loop trail. But thanks to a renewed quarter-cent parks and stormwater sales tax, major upgrades are underway.
Along with play equipment, the park will also see structural improvements with a new restroom, shelter for picnics and parties, as well as expanded parking to accommodate the expected increase in visitors.
The renovated park is set to open in the spring of 2026.
