KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A new boutique hotel coming to 18th & Vine District will soon give travelers a new option for Memorial Day Weekend fun.

Grayson Capital announced new details about the 132-room hotel project Friday. It will fall under the Marriott Bonvoy brand.

The hotel will offer an upscale restaurant named “Reuben and Ella’s.” The name honors Reuben and Ella Street. They were the former owners of the Street Hotel, Kansas City’s last majority Black-owned hotel.

A rooftop bar will offer panoramic views of Downtown Kansas City.

There will also eventually be a partnership between the hotel, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and other Kansas City museums and sports teams for special rates and education.

“Our goal is to create more than a hotel — this is a cultural destination,” Michael Collins, CEO of Grayson Capital, said. “We are building something that reflects the legacy of the Negro Leagues and the vibrancy of the 18th & Vine District, while delivering an elevated, meaningful guest experience.”

A timeline for the project, including the name of the hotel, will be announced at a later time.

Two years ago the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum started raising money to build its new facility that will be next to the hotel. The 30-000-square-foot facility will be built at the former Paseo YMCA. It’s next to the Buck O’Neil Education and Research Center.
