MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WXIX/Gray News) - An Ohio woman was driving home with her kids in her car when a bullet grazed the side of her head.

The woman, whose name is not yet being released, says she has not been behind the wheel since the incident that happened on May 15.

“We didn’t hear a shot until it went through the back windshield. Immediately, I felt it. I touched my head and saw the blood,” she said.

The woman says her son was lying down, her daughter was asleep, and she was talking with her boyfriend when the bullet entered their car.

“I was scared, but I knew I had to get somewhere to get them safe. I knew I was bleeding. I was hit, but I needed to get somewhere to get them safe to see if they were hit,” she said.

The woman turned onto Charles Street, the first side street she saw, and got help from a neighbor. She said her kids and boyfriend were not hurt.

“I don’t know why and I don’t know who. That’s the scary part,” she said.

The woman was rushed to Atrium Medical Center and then transferred to UC Medical Center, where she says doctors found a bullet fragment in her wig.

Pictures showed that the bullet grazed the side of her head, leaving a gash.

“From what the doctor said, because I was leaning over at the time reaching down to get my purse, it was one centimeter from me not being here,” she said. “I just know my purpose here is not done. I still have a purpose.”

No word yet if a suspect has been caught, which is why the woman is not being immediately identified.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family with expenses, as she says she can’t return to work until her wound heals.
