KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Charges have been filed against a 19-year-old accused of shooting at a man he had threatened in the past during the morning rush hour in Kansas City.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, May 21, indicate that Dillon J. Shaker, 19, of Kansas City, has been charged in connection with a month-old shooting during morning rush hour.

A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that around 6:55 a.m. on Oct. 25, 2024, a disturbance was reported to law enforcement officials. When they arrived at the scene, they found a victim who reported that Shaker, the enger in a black Kia Soul, pulled up next to him and fired a gun several times.

The victim told investigators that on his way to work, he ran a red light. He saw the driver of the Soul run the light as well and begin to follow him. Out of fear, the victim did not pull into his place of work but continued and got stuck in traffic. As the suspect vehicle pulled up next to him, Shaker began to get out.

As the victim believed he was about to be robbed, law enforcement officials said he started to drive away and was immediately shot at. The victim was uninjured, however, his car was found to have been damaged by the gunfire. Four spent shell casings were also found at the scene.

The victim also reported to investigators that Shaker had threatened him in the past. Surveillance footage caught the incident on camera and helped law enforcement locate the suspect vehicle, which had been abandoned, later that same day. The car was found to have been stolen from Kansas and towed to an investigative lot.

Investigators noted that a search of the stolen vehicle revealed Shaker’s DNA to be inside. He was also found to have two felony warrants out for his arrest - for a single count of harassment in Platte County and five counts of motor vehicle burglaries in Johnson County, Kansas.

Court documents indicated that charges of unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and tampering with a motor vehicle were filed against Shaker when he was found in the Jackson County Detention Center for a separate count of aggravated fleeing a stop.

If convicted, Missouri statutes indicated that Shaker could be sentenced to up to 37 years in prison and be forced to pay a $10,000 fine. As of Monday afternoon, he remains behind bars on a $50,000 bond.

A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, with a preliminary hearing expected at 2 p.m. on June 18. No further information has been released.
