KU Baseball Awaits NCAA Tournament Destination
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas Jayhawks are a “lock” to play in the NCAA baseball tournament; the only question is where.
So far this season, KU has won 43 games, with 20 victories against Big 12 opponents (both program records). In addition, KU is the only team in the country to win more than 40 games overall, 20 conference games, and 20 road games.
“I think our best baseball is for sure in front of us,” said Kansas’ head baseball coach, Dan Fitzgerald. “We’ve played really well for a really long time.”

Fitzgerald was named the 2025 Big 12 Coach of the Year in just his third season in Lawrence. The Jayhawks’ players say Fitzgerald turned the program around.
“He’s done a really good job of giving the team confidence,” said senior Chase Diggins. “Everyone that goes into the game knows they are going into the game because they are capable of doing what they are supposed to do.”
“We’ve built great chemistry this year, and we all believe in each other,” added Michael Brooks. “We all believe that we can go all the way.”
Entering the Big 12 Tournament, KU was hopeful to host an NCAA Regional. After losing to TCU in the Big 12 semifinals, KU still has a shot to host – but is on the outside looking in.
“I can tell you this, we’d love to host, and we are going to be more than ready to go play wherever,” said Fitzgerald. “When you play the way that we have, it literally is just about being who we are and enjoying every second of it and trying to play baseball as long as we can together.”
Regardless of if they host or not, KU is set to return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2014. They hope to get to Omaha for just the second time in program history.
“The good news is we’ve put ourselves in a fantastic position to with how we’ve played throughout the year,” Fitzgerald said. “Now, we’ve got to rest up and get ready to play.”
The NCAA baseball tournament selection show is scheduled for Monday, May 26 at 11 a.m.
