SEDALIA, Mo. (KCTV) - An annual summer music festival is set to return to Sedalia in 2025 as it honors the more than half-century-old legacy of Ragtime, where it all began.

Scott Joplin Festival leaders have announced that the International Ragtime Festival is set to bring four unforgettable days of music, history and celebration to downtown Sedalia. Music lovers and history buffs alike will be able to experience the vibrant sounds of America’s original genre in the town where it all began.

Festival officials noted that the annual event honors Scott Joplin, the King of Ragtime, who launched his career in Sedalia. The festival transforms the downtown area into a living tribute to early American music, with world-class musicians, free outdoor concerts, formal theater performances and more.

“This festival is more than a concert series—it’s a cultural experience,” says Shelley Rounds, Foundation . “Whether you’re a lifelong ragtime fan or simply curious about Missouri’s musical roots, the Scott Joplin Festival offers a welcoming, one-of-a-kind atmosphere.”

Highlights are expected to include performances by international ragtime stars, guided trolley tours and events for all ages. Attendees will be able to stroll the streets that Joplin walked, visit venues like the Liberty Center and Katy Depot and shop unique merchandise and music.

With a mix of free and ticketed events, leaders said the festival offers flexible options for every budget. The 2025 festival also marks more than 50 years of Joplin’s legacy in Sedalia.
