BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) - A 7-year-old girl was one of two who were injured during a rear-end collision along I-70 in Blue Springs.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, emergency crews were called to the area of westbound I-70 and S. Little Blue Valley Pkwy., near Woods Chapel, with reports of a 2-vehicle crash.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a 78-year-old Blue Springs man had been driving a Tesla Model 3 west on the interstate when he slowed to a stop partially along the shoulder.

State Troopers noted that the Tesla was hit from behind by a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 20-year-old Peculiar man. Two engers, a 35-year-old man and a 7-year-old girl, both from Olathe, were taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital as a result. The child sustained moderate injuries while the adult was minimally injured.

Investigators indicated that the Blue Springs driver escaped the crash without injury. Everyone involved had been wearing a seatbelt at the time. The Tesla sustained extensive damage while the Chevrolet was moderately damaged as a result. No further information has been released.
