RAYMORE, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man who led law enforcement officials on a high-speed chase has been charged after a stolen firearm was found in his possession.

Cass County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Friday, May 23, indicate that Orlando M. Haynes, 29, of Kansas City, has been charged after a high-speed chase led to the discovery of a stolen firearm.

A probable cause statement filed by the Raymore Police Department revealed that around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, law enforcement officials attempted to stop the driver of a black Hyundai Sonata in the area of N. Madison St. and Highway 58 for failure to stop at a stop sign.

However, when their emergency equipment was evacuated, investigators noted that the driver, later identified as Haynes, refused to stop and attempted to speed off. Law enforcement officials pursued him through three red traffic lights before the chase was terminated.

A short time later, the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicated that the suspect vehicle was spotted along I-49 near 163rd St. in Belton. This time, Haynes was stopped and taken into custody.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators said a handgun was found, which was revealed to have been stolen out of Kansas City. Inside the trunk, a trash bag filled with more than 22 oz. of marijuana was found.

Law enforcement officials revealed that Haynes itted to knowingly attempting to flee from officers but claimed he purchased the firearm from a friend several years beforehand. As a result, he has been charged with aggravated fleeing a stop and stealing a firearm.

A hearing in the case has not yet been scheduled. As of Monday evening, Haynes remains behind bars in the Cass County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond. No further information has been released.
