Good Samaritans, firefighters rescue drivers from burning vehicles in Grandview

GRANDVIEW, Mo. (KCTV) - Good Samaritans were able to pull one driver from a burning pickup truck while they kept the fire from spreading inside an SUV, which crashed into each other in Grandview.

The Grandview, Missouri, Police Department says that around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, emergency crews were called to the area of E. Frontage Rd. and I-49 with reports of a 2-vehicle crash.

When first responders arrived, they said they found that a pickup truck and an SUV had collided nearly head-on. Both quickly caught fire soon after impact.

Law enforcement officials noted that several Good Samaritans were able to pull the driver from the pickup, which was engulfed by flames. Meanwhile, the SUV’s driver was trapped and had to be rescued by the Grandview Fire Department.

Investigators also said the bystanders were able to prevent the fire from spreading further in the SUV. Both drivers were taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

As of 6 p.m., E. Frontage Rd. remains closed just south of 140th St. The roadway is expected to stay that way for at least another 2 hours.
