Kansas City zoo’s ‘Africa’ renovations now complete
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A transformation at the Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium is complete after months of renovations.
The project to improve the Africa section at the zoo began in August. Nine months later the project is finished and the zoo is ready to show off the results.
The African Kopje has wider pathways, two new family restrooms, and a mother’s room. Renovations expanded the indoor lion viewing area and added a new ADA-designated area to increase accessibility for all visitors.
The project also helps the zoo celebrate the 30 years the African Kopje has been open. In Africa, a kopje is a small, rocky hill.
To add to the celebration, there is a new animal that calls that area of the zoo home. Adazee the aardvark is a 13-year-old female transferred from the Indianapolis Zoo.
Adazee is still getting used to her new home, so it may be a little bit before visitors see her.
Next up for the zoo is a new habitat for the giraffes. When the project is complete, visitors will be able to see the giraffes year-round.
