OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (Gray News) – A couple celebrating their wedding anniversary ended up with a gift of a lifetime after picking up a scratch-off lottery ticket.

“My husband and I like playing different scratch-off tickets, especially the Diamonds & Gold game,” the lucky 44-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, told Michigan Lottery officials.

The couple won $2 million playing the Diamonds & Gold instant game.

“I started shaking and was in total shock when $2 million came up on the screen. It was so exciting and the best surprise on our anniversary!” she said.

According to Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli, the couple said the prize money will help fund their children’s future education.

“Congratulations to the lucky player and her husband who had a day they will never forget after winning $2 million on their wedding anniversary,” Shkreli said.

The player chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $1.3 million, rather than annuity payments for the full amount.

In addition to helping with her children’s college funds, the winner plans to use the money to buy a house and invest the rest.
