MERRIAM, Kan. (KCTV) - A house fire that broke out inside the garage of a Merriam home left two adults displaced and sent one of them to a nearby hospital.

The Overland Park Fire Department says that just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, emergency crews were called to the area of 72nd and Antioch Rd. with reports of a house fire. When they arrived, they found smoke and flames billowing from the garage of a split-level, single-family home.

Firefighters said they went to work and attacked the blaze in the garage as additional crews searched the home. Everyone was found to have been able to safely self-evacuate.

Meanwhile, crews noted that they learned the fire had spread to the attic above the garage and main living space. It took them about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
