Independence man charged after shots fired into home occupied by child

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An Independence man is behind bars after he allegedly fired several shots into the front door of a home occupied by a 10-year-old child.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Sunday, May 25, indicate that Levi D. Lee, 32, of Independence, has been charged with a felony after he allegedly shot a rifle at a Kansas City home.

A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that around 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, law enforcement officials were called to a local home with reports of a disturbance that involved a firearm. When they arrived, they learned Lee had gotten into an altercation with the homeowners.

Investigators noted that Lee allegedly showed up at the home and became aggressive before he walked back to his vehicle and grabbed a rifle. He shot the firearm at the house multiple times before he got back inside the vehicle and fired several more rounds. He sped off east on Independence Ave.

The victim told KD their 10-year-old child had been inside at the time of the shooting. No injuries were reported as a result, however, several bullet holes were found in the front door and surrounding bricks.

A short time after the shooting, law enforcement officials spotted Lee heading down Highway 24 near Winner Ct. A traffic stop was conducted, and Lee was taken into custody.

As a result, Lee has been charged with the unlawful use of a weapon. He remains behind bars as of Friday evening on a $100,000 bond. A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, with a preliminary hearing expected at 2 p.m. on June 25.
