Detectives announced Thursday that Lakevis Sloan and a 17-year-old male have been arrested and charged with Second-Degree Murder in the May 3 death of Sir’Antonio Brown.(Minnehaha County)

Sir was playing outside with an older family member when Sloan and another person fired dozens of shots near 31st and Greeley in 2023.

Police say evidence showed the shooters saw the child but still chose to shoot with no regard for the kindergartner’s life.

Sir’Antonio Brown was shot in the area of North 31st Street and Greeley Avenue in KCK.

FBI agents and KCK investigators arrested Sloan and a juvenile as they exited a Greyhound bus in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Sloan was initially charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated endangerment of a child. On September 16, 2024, the murder charge was amended to first-degree murder.

Under the of the plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to the original charges, with the lesser murder charge. The agreement indicates the prison sentence will range from 15 to 26 years in prison. A representative with the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office said a judge will make the ultimate decision on the sentence. Court records do not yet give a date for sentencing.

An 18-year-old woman was also charged in connection with Sir’s death. Investigators said she owned the vehicle the suspects used to commit the homicide and knowingly provided false statements to law enforcement to obstruct the prosecution of the suspects.

She entered into a diversion agreement last year.
