KC Streetcar to Historic 18th & Vine under discussion
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - More big ideas are underway for the Historic 18th & Vine District.
The Kansas City Streetcar Board unanimously voted for a feasibility study to be conducted sometime this year, exploring a possible extension of the streetcar running an east/west line on 18th Street to the historic district.
An oversight group will head the study, comprised of local city and community leaders as well as property and business owners in the district.
Councilwoman Melissa Patterson-Hazley says if the study proves favorable toward the idea, the streetcar would be a powerful addition to the current momentum already electrifying the district.
Among the additions approved for Kansas City’s music row: A $50 million Marriott hotel, renovations for Parade Park homes and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum expansion building down the street from its current location.
City council says this current effort would reconnect 18th & Vine’s Pedestrian Mall to the rest of Kansas City. The KC Streetcar is free to ride and could provide riders easy access to all entertainment districts while also serving as a connection to downtown.
