KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The parent company of Worlds of Fun is laying off employees, including cuts at the Kansas City amusement park.

The news became public at the same time Oceans of Fun is opening for the season.

Six Flags Entertainment confirmed it is in the process of reducing full-time employees across the company. A spokesperson said the cuts for just over 10% of its total full-time workforce. Part time and temporary workers are not included in the cuts according to information provided by the company.

Six Flags Entertainment announced the decision during the company’s quarterly earnings call with investors on May 8.

“This decision was made after careful consideration and a thorough review of our evolving business needs. This does include Worlds of Fun, however the number of associates is considered confidential,” the company said in a statement.

The majority of the restructuring will be completed by the end of June the company said.

“We are committed to ing our associates through this transition. All eligible associates will be presented with either an opportunity to continue in a part-time role or will be provided with a separation package and other benefits,” Six Flags Entertainment said.

The company did not confirm how many employees were cut at Worlds of Fun.

The amusement park opened for the season earlier this month. Oceans of Fun opens May 30 for the summer.
