Elderly Texas couple seriously injured after 4-car pile-up on I-35 in Missouri
HOLT, Mo. (KCTV) - An elderly couple from Texas was seriously injured after a rear-end collision on I-35 in Missouri caused a 4-car pile-up on Friday afternoon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that just before 2:50 p.m. on Friday, May 30, law enforcement officials were called to the area of northbound I-35 and Highway PP, west of Holt, with reports of a 4-vehicle crash.
When first responders arrived, they said they found a 33-year-old Apple Valley, Minnesota, man had been driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on the interstate. He was followed by a 73-year-old Boerne, Texas, man in a 2020 Hyundai Elantra and a 23-year-old Hannibal woman in a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox.
State Troopers said the Hannibal woman ran into the back of the Elantra, which caused the Hyundai to crash into the back of the Jeep. The Equinox continued into the side of a ing 2022 Ford Explorer driven by a 41-year-old Pleasant Valley woman.
Investigators noted that the second impact caused the Equinox to veer off the right side of the interstate, while the Elantra and Jeep ended up off the west side. The Ford was able to slow to a stop on the shoulder.
Emergency crews said that as a result of the crash, the 73-year-old Texas driver was taken to Liberty Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 70-year-old enger in his vehicle was also taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers indicated that everyone involved in the crash had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The Chevrolet and Hyundai were totaled as a result, while the Jeep and the Ford sustained minor damage. No further information has been released.
