INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - A late Saturday motorcycle crash is being investigated as authorities work to determine whether intoxication played a part.

The Independence Police Department issued a statement about a crash that occurred just before 11 p.m. on May 31.

According to investigators, an unidentified person on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was driving east on Sterling Avenue when a Kia Sorento pulled out into the southbound lanes from 19th Street. The motorcycle hit the back of the Kia, causing the driver serious injuries.

Independence police said the Kia’s driver stayed on the scene to cooperate, and “it does appear” that the motorcyclist was speeding. They are unsure if intoxication was a factor, and the incident is still under investigation.
