KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is investigating after a Kansas City, Kansas police officer fired their weapon, hitting a suspect in a domestic call dispute.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, in the 200 block of N. 78 Street, south of the Kansas Speedway.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said Monday the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Timothy Cella, made verbal threats to officers. The KBI said KCKPD officers believed Cella pointed a gun at them. Around 3:45 a.m., officers saw Cella raising “what was believed to be a firearm at officers,” the KBI said, leading six officers to fire shots.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital, and is currently in critical but stable condition, according to the KBI’s Monday afternoon update. No officers were injured in the incident.

KBI investigators found a butane torch at the scene. That is believed to be the object officers saw Cella pointing at them.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing, according to the KBI. Once concluded, case findings will be presented to the Wyandotte County District Attorney to determine whether charges will be filed.
