EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - The family of the man charged in an attack that injured 12 in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday has been taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to agency officials.

The family of Mohamed Sabry Soliman was being taken into custody by ICE, Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem shared in a social media post Tuesday.

Soliman, an Egyptian national who officials said was in the country on an expired visa, faces a federal hate crime charge and several attempted murder charges related to the attack.

“Mohamed‘s despicable actions will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but we’re also investigating to what extent his family knew about this horrific attack, if they had any knowledge of it, or if they provided to it,” Noem said in a video posted to X.

According to court documents, Soliman has a wife and five children, who were living in Cimarron Hills. CBS News reported that a DHS official took them all into ICE custody, and they will now be processed under expedited removal.

Soliman, 45, was still in the Boulder County jail Tuesday afternoon on a $10 million cash-only bond. He is accused of throwing Molotov cocktails and using a makeshift flamethrower against a crowd of demonstrators walking in solidarity with Israeli hostages, injuring 12.

According to arrest papers, Soliman told investigators he planned the attack for a year. Soliman allegedly added during the interview with investigators that he took a concealed carry class to learn how to shoot a gun, but said he could not purchase a firearm due to his immigration status.
