KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City Royals left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic’s outstanding season is earning him some early recognition.

On Tuesday, the 27-year-old Stanford product was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for May. In five starts during the month, Bubic went 3-0 with an AL-best 0.56 ERA, allowing just 2 earned runs over 32.1 innings of work.

Bubic becomes the 10th player in Royals history to have been named AL Pitcher of the Month and represents the 17th instance a Royals pitcher has won the award. He s Cole Ragans as pitchers in the current Royals rotation who have won the award.

Ragans won the award in August 2023. Bubic, Ragans and Zack Greinke are the only Royals pitchers to win the award in the last two decades.

On Sunday, Bubic continued his excellent work with 7 innings of work, allowing just 1 run against the Detroit Tigers. It was his 8th start of 12 against a team that made the playoffs last season.

Bubic, who spent last season working out of the bullpen for the Royals, moved into the rotation following a trade of Brady Singer this offseason. Through two months, he leads the MLB with a 1.43 ERA.
