New family-friendly park proposed along Berkley Riverfront
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Construction and new projects continue to kick off each morning at the Berkley Riverfront, which will soon include a new family-friendly park. Renderings were released by the Kansas City Current in an announcement on Monday.
The new park will go right next to the stadium by the river. Additional park space will be added in front of a new apartment complex that is currently going up next to the stadium along the river, with rocks and grass.
The new park, being called Levee Park, will take over an acre along the water. It will include a children’s play area, a stage, new trails and a boardwalk going over the river.
Montana Miller has lived at the Riverfront since the beginning of the year and says it’s been amazing to watch the progress in the area with the Streetcar, additional residential and retail spots and soon-to-be extended Riverfront Trail.
“I know the history about this place because my grandpa used to work with the railroad down here, and so when this was nothing, he would tell me stories about him working down here, and then I tell him stories about the new development and just kind of share stories around,” she said.

The Kansas City Current announced that the addition right near the stadium will cost nothing for taxpayers.
Instead, co-owners and co-founders of the Current, Angie and Chris Long, have agreed to pay for Levee Park.
The pair released the following statement.
“Our work to develop the Levee Park will reclaim the waterfront for all Kansas Citians—extending our city’s public realm closer to the Missouri River than ever before. By transforming this unused space into a beautiful new community asset, we hope to inspire Kansas Citians to engage with the water in ways we haven’t yet imagined.”

The goal is to have the park open in time for the World Cup in 2026.
