LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - A Lawrence man is in custody on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder after shots were fired at a mobile home Tuesday night.

The Lawrence Police Department said a man shot “at least” a dozen rounds into a mobile home Tuesday night at about 9 p.m. Officers believe the man was attempting to kill the man inside a mobile home located near 33rd and Iowa.

Officers said they found the man inside the home. He had not been struck by gunfire.

LPD said they also found evidence of the shooting and identified a suspect.

Police talked to the suspect on the phone and the suspect “voiced extreme anger at the man inside the mobile home,” they said in a Facebook post.

The officer was able to negotiate with the suspect and get him to peacefully surrender. According to Douglas County’s booking recap, 33-year-old Douglas Adam Speight was booked on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder. Speight is being held on no bond.
