Murder charges filed against man in relation to shooting in Santa Fe neighborhood

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Murder charges have been filed against a man in relation to a fatal shooting Sunday in the Santa Fe neighborhood.

Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Wednesday that 26-year-old Shawn L. Allen Jr. faces five felony charges. One of those charges is for second-degree murder following a shooting that killed 31-year-old Javonie E. Minor Sunday at 2900 Wabash Avenue.

Allen Jr.’s other charges include two counts of armed criminal action, one count of shooting a firearm at or from a motor vehicle and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.

On Sunday, police were called to the area just before 8:30 p.m. There, they found a man later identified as Minor suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Allen Jr. is currently in custody in the Jackson County Jail and being held without bond.
