KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City is facing the threat of having to pay out another lawsuit, this after an employee is suing the city for accusations she posted a tweet about Harrison Butker following his controversial speech to the graduating class at Benedictine College in May 2024.

Butker’s commencement speech included comments against Pride Month. He also spoke about how his wife felt most fulfilled in being a homemaker. Despite the backlash, the Chiefs’ star kicker stands behind his words.

You can hear Butker’s entire commencement speech here.

Following the speech, Kansas City’s official social media s put out a post saying: “Just a reminder that Harrison Butker lives in the city of __” and then proceeded to name the city where Butker lives with his wife and three children. This action is a violation of the city’s communication rules, Kansas City officials stated.

In the lawsuit filed by current City employee Andrea Watts, she accuses the city of discrimination and harassment.

Watts denied being the one to make or share the post. She is seeking lost wages, damages for humiliation, stress, and more.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of the story implied the employee no longer worked for the City. That has been corrected to show she is a current employee.
