UPDATE: Man in custody after police standoff ends at residence near Van Brunt Park

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A man is in custody after officers ended an hours-long standoff at a residence near East High School.
The Kansas City Police Department announced that they entered the residence at 17th and Topping and took the subject into custody without further incident.

Negotiators and police continue to surround a metro residence in efforts for a man to exit after a disturbance call.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers were called to the 17th and Topping just after 7 a.m. on a disturbance call.
By the time officers arrived, they made with a woman who was a distance away from the dispatched address. She told officers that she and her boyfriend had been involved in an argument at the location.
The woman told officers that the situation escalated when the male subject shot a gun at her and attempted to assault her further. The woman then got away from the area to safety and called police.

Officers attempted to make with the male subject at the address. According to KD, he refused to come out. Officers then deescalated and backed away to surround the residence, to prevent the male subject from escaping and to protect surrounding residents.
Negotiators are in with the male subject who is believed to be alone in the residence, according to officers.
Officers are continuing efforts to convince the male subject to exit the residence peacefully.
