CHICAGO (KCTV) - Following a subpar performance Friday night against the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals reliever Jonathan Bowlan is returning to Omaha.

Bowlan, a 28-year-old right-handed pitcher who has appeared in 12 Major League games, was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday morning after taking the loss in Kansas City’s series-opening defeat against the White Sox.

Bowlan is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA in nine appearances with the Royals this season. Friday night, Bowlan appeared in the bottom of the seventh inning, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing 2 hits, 5 runs (3 of which were earned) while struggling with his command en route to four walks.

It was the first time this season Bowlan had allowed multiple runs in an appearance.

In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Trevor Richards was selected from the Storm Chasers and will Kansas City for Saturday’s game in Chicago.

Richards, 32, is 0-2 with a 4.19 ERA in 17 minor league appearances this season. He’s struck out 23 batters in 19.1 innings of work.
