KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A woman who is 32 weeks pregnant is thankful to be alive after surviving a serious crash.

On May 28, Halie Brindley and her fiancée were hit as they were trying to turn onto Truman Road from Montgall Ave. Brindley is a mom of two with one on the way in just weeks.

“When he pulled out slowly, we’re going 2 mph,” Brindley said. “Next thing I know, I’m looking over to my left, I had a 10-second glance of a blue car. He looked to his left, and all we could do is break and brace.”

Both cars were totaled, and all Brindley could think about was her unborn baby girl.

“That was my first thought because I didn’t know if my water broke,” Brindley said. “I just airbags exploding and me coming to and screaming.”

Witnesses ran over to get her out of the car as they waited for the ambulance.

“When I got out, I had pain in my lower stomach, I got a lot of bruising from that, my hip was really hurting, and I was having back-to-back contractions,” Brindley said.

Thankfully, when they got to the hospital, they were able to stop her contractions, and she was told her baby is going to be ok.

“I was very scared of having her early on top of possibly having anything internally wrong with me,” Brindley said.

Now, as Brindley heals emotionally and physically, she wants her story to serve as a reminder for all drivers to take it slow and be alert and always buckle up.

“Truman has a lot of side streets that do get blocked by cars, that puts a lot of people’s lives at risk,” Brindley said. “My biggest message is make sure you wear your seatbelt because the seatbelt, the airbags, and the car, along with holding the impact and not flipping, is what saved our lives.”

There is a GoFundMe if you would like to help Brindley as she is out of a car and preparing for her baby to be born.
