City of Belton seeking professional artist to create Chalk the Walk centerpiece
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The City of Belton is looking for an artist to go front and center at its first-ever Chalk the Walk.
The inaugural event is scheduled for Sept. 20 and 21, 2025, at the Belton Memorial Park. Complete with vendors, food trucks, music and more, the goal is to fill the walking trail around the park’s pond with chalk art. Students, amateurs and professionals are invited to participate.
One piece, however, will take center stage.
The City’s open call asks for one artist or a team of artists who can “bring an impactful design and professional experience to make this inaugural event unforgettable.” To apply, artists must submit a portfolio that shows their experience with large-scale chalk or outdoor art, an artist statement and references.
The winning artist will receive a $1,500 stipend and $500 for materials. Submissions are due by Aug. 1, 2025, and the winner will be announced by Aug. 20.
“What better way to encourage artists of all ages and skills to create chalk art than by having a professional artist working alongside them as part of this event?” Belton said in its open call.
