Pasquantino named AL Player of the Week following red-hot road trip

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A scorching hot road trip for Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino helped him earn an award this week.
Major League Baseball announced that Pasquantino was named the AL Player of the Week after he went 13-for-26 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI during a six-game road trip against the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox. His 13 hits and .500 batting average for the week was tied for the MLB lead with Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson.
Pasquantino delivered a game-tying 2-run double Tuesday night in St. Louis en route to a 10-7 Royals victory and homered in Friday and Saturday’s games in Chicago for the Royals. The 27-year-old from Richmond, Virginia, won the award for the second time in his career and became the first Royal to be named Player of the Week this season.
In 2024, shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. won the award twice, taking home the honor for May 20-26 and July 15-21. Pasquantino had previously been named AL Player of the Week for Aug. 8-14, 2022.
Pasquantino’s hot hitting included four multi-hit games and hits in all six games for the week. Tuesday night, Pasquantino and the Royals return to Kauffman Stadium for a pair of series against the New York Yankees and Athletics.
Pasquantino will enter the homestand with a 9-game hitting streak and career-best 24-game on-base streak.
In the National League, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso took home NL Player of the Week.
