Road rage incident along 52 Highway leads to 19 felony charges for Missouri man
WINDSOR, Mo. (KCTV) - More than a dozen felony charges have been filed against a man accused of intentionally running his vehicle into the back of a car occupied by a family.
Pettis County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Saturday, June 7, indicate that Jeremy J. Shacklett, 48, has been charged in connection with a road rage incident that put 2 teenagers in danger.
A probable cause statement filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol revealed that just before 1:25 p.m. on Friday, law enforcement officials received a 911 call from a female enger who reported the car she was traveling in was hit by another vehicle on Missouri Highway 52 near State Route B, east of Windsor.
The victim told investigators that the vehicle she was in was also occupied by the male driver and 2 teenagers - 13 and 15. She said the suspect vehicle had followed them before the driver, later identified as Shacklett, hit them several more times. The last time the car was hit, the impact caused the sedan to veer off the road.
State Troopers said they spotted the suspect vehicle a short time later near State Route B and Lake Rd. where Shacklett was taken into custody. He was believed to be intoxicated at the time. A breath test would later reveal a BAC of 0.115% - over the legal limit.
During his arrest, law enforcement officials noted that Shacklett itted that he followed the family’s vehicle closely and ran into it every time the driver slowed down. A criminal history check revealed he had been arrested several times since 1998 for driving with suspended privileges, driving while intoxicated, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
As a result, Shacklett has been charged with 21 counts relating to the road rage incident:
- 9 counts of armed criminal action - felony
- 4 counts of assault in the second degree - felony
- 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child - felony
- Tampering with a motor vehicle - felony
- Leaving the scene of an accident - felony
- Property damage - felony
- Driving while intoxicated - misdemeanor
- Operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner - misdemeanor
A hearing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on June 24. As of Monday afternoon, Shacklett remains behind bars on a $100,000 bond.
