Robbery of Gladstone liquor store, high-speed chase land KC man behind bars
GLADSTONE, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man could spend the rest of his life in prison after he allegedly robbed a Gladstone liquor store and led police on a high-speed chase.
Clay County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Friday, June 6, indicate that Iszuwaun M. Quinn, 28, of Kansas City, has been charged with the attempted robbery of a .. store before he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase.
A probable cause statement filed by the Gladstone Police Department revealed that just before 2:55 p.m. on Friday, law enforcement officials were called to Bubbles Wine & Spirits at 7411 N. Oak Trafficway with reports of a robbery. They learned that the suspect vehicle, a black sedan, had sped away from the scene.
Investigators noted that during the robbery, the suspect, later identified as Quinn, hit an employee in the head with a large bottle of liquor while he attempted to steal several bottles of high-dollar booze. His vehicle was quickly spotted along N. Oak Trafficway near NE Englewood Rd.
Law enforcement officials indicated that they attempted to stop Quinn’s car, however, he ultimately refused and sped onto 169 Highway south. He weaved in and out of traffic to get there and almost hit multiple vehicles.
The Police Department said the chase continued along the highway as they reached speeds greater than 110 mph. Quinn’s reckless driving continued until law enforcement officials lost sight of him near NW Briarcliff Rd. and called the chase off.
Investigators revealed that the suspect vehicle was later found abandoned by the Riverside Police Department near NW Tullison and NW 38th St. A witness reported he had run south from the vehicle. A perimeter was quickly set up with the help of multiple agencies.
Gladstone PD noted that with the aid of the Kansas City Police Department helicopter and Platte County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units, Quinn was taken into custody before he was transported to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment of a dog bite.
During an interview with investigators, Quinn itted to the robbery and the chase. As a result, he has been charged with robbery in the first-degree, armed criminal action and aggravated fleeing a stop. If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
A bond reduction hearing has been set for 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 12. As of Monday afternoon, Quinn remains behind bars on a $100,000 bond. No further information has been released.
