Cats rescued from burning Independence home

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - Two felines were rescued from a burning home in Independence as crews continue to investigate what caused the fire.

The Independence, Missouri, Fire Department says that around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 9, emergency crews were called to a home on W. 27th St. with reports of a fire.

When first responders arrived, they said they found smoke emanating from the home. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze in the kitchen.

While no humane injuries were reported, crews said they were able to rescue two felines from the burning house.

Firefighters noted that the origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation. No further information has been released.
