Melissa Kozakiewicz out as assistant city manager
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - It was just more than two months ago that former City Manager Brian Platt was fired from his position. Now, one of his top aides is also out.
As of Monday, June 9, Melissa Kozakiewicz no longer works for the city. Kozakiewicz had been on the job for four years. Brian Platt hired Kozakiewicz shortly after he got the job in Kansas City. The two had worked together in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Kozakiewicz worked closely with Platt and was mentioned frequently in a whistleblower lawsuit against the city earlier this year. Former communications director Chris Hernandez was awarded almost $1 million when the jury found in his favor. Hernandez had claimed he was demoted after pushing back on Platt’s suggestion that the department lie to the media.
Kozakiewicz was making just north of $190,000 a year in her position.
The City’s press secretary declined to comment on the firing, adding that the City cannot comment on personnel matters.
