INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - A weekend kidnapping investigation led to the arrest of a Raytown man who allegedly broke into an Independence home and took an infant from her mother.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Sunday, June 8, indicate that Isaiah D. Francises, 25, of Raytown, has been charged after he allegedly broke into the home of the mother of his child.

A probable cause statement filed by the Independence Police Department revealed that after just 9:25 p.m. on Saturday, law enforcement officials were called with reports of a kidnapping in progress. The child’s mother reported that the father, Francises, broke down her door, took the child and sped off.

Law enforcement officials said they caught up with Francises near Chrysler Ave., where he failed to comply with demands as he held an unrestrained 4-month-old child. Eventually, he put the infant down and stepped out of the vehicle, where he was taken into custody.

During an interview with investigators, Francises claimed that the child’s mother had taken her without his knowledge and that she threatened to harm the infant. He claimed she voluntarily gave him the child when he arrived at the residence. However, both the victim’s statement and evidence found at the scene contradict this.

As a result, Francises has been charged with burglary and child endangerment. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 22 years behind bars.

A court appearance has been scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 26. As of Tuesday afternoon, Francises no longer remains behind bars as his $30,000 bond has been posted. No further information has been released.
