WWI Memorial celebrates reopening of Liberty Tower after 5-month closure

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Liberty Tower observation deck is once again open to the public after a 5-month closure for renovations.

The National World War I Memorial and Museum announced that its Liberty Memorial Tower recently reopened following a 5-month hiatus for cleaning and restoration. In celebration, after-hours viewing opportunities have been made available to the public:

  • June 12 - 5 to 8:30 p.m.
  • June 26 - 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Museum leaders noted that Tower tickets are $6 per person and will be available at the base of the Tower each day. Meanwhile, the Tower soars nearly 220 feet above the Memorial Courtyard and is flanked by the Guardian Spirits - Honor, Courage, Patriotism and Sacrifice. Access to the viewing deck is available after a short elevator ride.

Memorial officials also indicated that Taps at the Tower is set to return on June 15, 16 and 17. Community are invited to the grounds each evening for a picnic, games and outdoor activities. At sunset, Taps will be played before a brief ceremony - rain or shine.
