KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Law enforcement stated Thursday morning that a man’s death was the result of a homicide.

Kansas City Police later identified the victim as 62-year-old Jerry L. Terry.

Officers were called to the 3400 block of Broadway Boulevard about 6:45 a.m. after a Penn Valley Community College security officer noticed a body in a nearby parking lot.

KD stated that Terry had suffered significant injuries and was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead a short time later, and officers indicated that his death was the result of a homicide.

Police said they were working to determine the cause, manner and time of death.

KCTV5 spoke with residents who live in a nearby apartment complex, some who came across the deceased man.

Cyree Triggs said he came home around 4:00 a.m. from work when he noticed a man lying in his parking lot.

“I noticed him laying probably 30 feet away from me and then I went inside,” he said.

Triggs said he then went up to his room and went to bed. He stated police later woke him up to ask him about the man in the parking and told him he had been killed.

“I was just shocked. It’s kinda sad that’s where somebody ended up,” he reflected.

Triggs said he wishes he would have called 911 initially when he saw the man.

Still, he said he feels the area is safe and isn’t worried about this recent incident.

“It’s an unfortunate situation. Unfortunately, it can happen anywhere. My advice is if anyone sees something like that to call 911.”

Anyone in the area over the last several hours who might have information has been asked to detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
