Missouri governor signs stadium funding bill into law

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Just days after lawmakers ed a stadium funding bill, Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed it into law Saturday.
Kehoe announced the special session, after the Legislature wrapped up its work without giving final approval to a plan that would authorize state bonds for the Chiefs and Royals valued at up to half the cost of the stadium projects.
Missouri leaders said the funding was needed because Kansas lawmakers already ed a plan that would allow the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals to use bonds for up to 70% of the cost of building new stadiums.
Kehoe said Missouri’s plan ensures the Show-Me State is competitive in its efforts to keep the Chiefs, Royals, and other professional sports teams in the future.
The new plan gives the state the ability to use bonds and one-time tax credits as incentives for professional sports teams to finance and build stadiums in Missouri.
ers also say the act includes built-in protections for taxpayers.
The stadium funding bill is just one of several issues Missouri lawmakers handled during the special session. They also approved funding for disaster relief, property tax relief, and other help for businesses.
The offer in Kansas expires on June 30, unless lawmakers extend the offer.
The Royals have set a self-imposed June deadline to announce where they plan to build a new home.
