Kansas City gardener accused of luring child behind bush before sexual assault
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City professional gardener is behind bars after he allegedly lured a child into a bush and sexually assaulted her.
Clay County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Thursday, June 5, indicate that Victor Medrano, 45, of Kansas City, Kansas, has been charged with statutory sodomy.
A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that on Wednesday, law enforcement officials were notified of a possible child sex crime. A local parent reported their child, who is under the age of 12, had returned home from a playdate visibly shaken and revealed she had been assaulted.
Investigators said they found Medrano, a gardener hired by her friend’s parents, allegedly waved the child into the bushes where he sexually assaulted her. She ultimately slapped him away; however, he continued to attempt to fondle her until a car ed by and he shooed her away.
Law enforcement officials said Medrano was found at the scene of the crime as he had returned to work. He was taken into custody and attempted to give a false name. It was also found that the victim attempted to tell an adult, however they did not understand at the time.
As of Friday evening, Medrano remains behind bars on a $30,000 bond. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to life behind bars. An arraignment has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, June 9.
